4‑H is a community that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4‑H through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4‑H camps. We recognize that the youth of today are our future leaders and what they learn and experience in 4-H will help them develop into contributing citizens who will give back to their communities in the future.
In Clay County, there are 8 community clubs throughout the county that typically meet monthly. Clubs also do a variety of activities such as community service, club demonstrations, and project work. We have specialty clubs such as Shooting Sports, Dog, and Horse. All 4-H Members are able and encouraged to participate in a variety of 4-H project areas, regardless of which club they are in or where they live. 4-H Members can also participate in the Clay County Fair, leadership like the Ambassador’s program, many county project workshops, activities, and events local to Vermillion. There are also opportunities for participation on the State and National levels. The new 4-H Year begins on October 1.
